In 1951 the King of Nepal opened his country's borders to Christian missionaries. In 2015 that door was closed as Nepal declared itself a secular state. Despite this, the Nepalese Church remains one of the fastest growing in the world.

It often seems as if God has abandoned His people and that the world is winning the battle. But being here in Nepal and seeing all that God has done since 2015 convinces me that the truth is quite the opposite.

Not being able to speak directly about Jesus and Christian faith has resulted in missionaries putting more effort into simply empowering people through love and faithfulness. Many years may pass before anyone questions why Christians would do this. It's an incredibly long process. But it's also very effective. It's clear that this kind of evangelism works for the communities here. The hardships they face makes their faith shine all the brighter.

I wonder what would happen if we were even half as effective in loving Australian communities in a way that reached them and made our faith shine as God's people?

It's easy to blame indifference in Australian culture for the difficulties we face in evangelising our nation. But God has placed us here. We know the languages, culture, and people of Australia. It's on us and no-one else to find an evangelistic language that speaks to the heart of Australians.

"And he said to them, "The harvest is plentiful, but the laborers are few. Therefore pray earnestly to the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into his harvest."  (Luke 10:2)
