travel light

How are you at packing? I hate it! I put everything on the spare bed, and I dither. How hot will it be – or cold? I need to pack for all weather!

My heart is always in my mouth at the airport check-in. Even though I’ve weighed my case at home, I’m still nervous. The rules are rigid! If your bag is overweight, the scrutiny awaits of unpacking and discarding in front of complete strangers! How embarrassing!! Yes, this has happened to me!!

In a spiritual sense, we are so good at filling our lives with “clutter”, but God calls us to “travel light”. As Christians, in order to know how to walk in our spiritual journey, we also must know where we are going.

Philippians 3:13-14 is a great reminder –

“My friends, I don’t feel that I have already arrived. But I forget what is behind, and I struggle for what is ahead. I run toward the goal, so that I can win the prize of being called to heaven. This is the prize that God offers because of what Christ Jesus has done.”

Not all roads are smooth sailing. Sometimes we hit roadblocks and God sometimes takes us on detours, but along the way there are those wonderful stretches of road where we experience all the good things God has already planned for us.

So, pack “light”; take your spiritual road map (the Bible) with you, and you will be ready to travel on any path where the Lord may lead you.
